Bibi Ortjens begon na de middelbare school in 2013 met klassieke zang bij sopraan Heidi Pittie aan Muziekschool Kumulus Maastricht. Dit werd vervolgd bij sopraan Karin Herpel in Berlijn. In 2014 werd ze aangenomen op het Conservatorium Maastricht bij bariton Frans Kokkelmans, waar ze in 2019 haar Bachelor diploma ontving, cum laude met onderscheiding. Ze vervolgde haar Master opleiding in Maastricht terwijl ze extern zangles kreeg bij haar huidige docent sopraan Selma Harkink. Juni 2022 heeft ze haar Master cum laude afgerond. Via het Erasmus+ programma studeerde ze tijdens haar Master een semester in Wenen aan de MUK (Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien) bij sopraan Uta Schwabe (wintersemester 2020-2021).
Vanwege Bibi’s liefde voor de Weense operette voelde dit als een droom die uitkwam. Deze liefde koestert ze ook voor het Duits- en Franstalige kunstlied waarmee ze in 2022 is afgestudeerd: liedrecital Calligrammes (Poulenc) en Myrthen op.25 (Schumann). Als Lied-duo met Vincent Kusters (piano) won ze de 1e prijs op het Internationaal Festival Vocallis 2018 voor het vertolken van de Sieben Frühe Lieder (Berg). De prijs werd uitgereikt door Jard van Nes en Marien van Nieukerken.
Zomer 2022 zong ze de rol van Ännchen in Der Freischütz (von Weber: Delamboye, van der Werf) bij Opera Compact.
Bijna geheel 2022 zong ze de rol van Noeka in de kinderopera VLOGEL (van den Bergh) van Boven Water Muziektheater.
Voorjaar 2021 was Bibi te zien als Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore (Donizetti: Delamboye, Derbyshire) in een coproductie van De Nationale Opera, Opera Zuid en Nederlandse Reisopera met een livestream op OperaVision.
Juni 2022 zong ze de rol nog eens tijdens het Opera Viva Festival te Woerden.
Winter 2019 maakte ze haar debuut bij Opera Zuid als Erste Knabe in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart: Bayl, Keesmaat).
Hier is ze tevens werkzaam sinds 2016 in het operakoor en als koorsolist o.a. Barbara in Lady in the Dark (Weill: Stern, Pool).
Voor Opera Zuid’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Britten: Deseure, Mafaalani) werkte ze als regie assistent kinderkoor.
In conservatorium producties vertolkte ze de volgende rollen: Fiorella in Les Brigands (Offenbach), Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart) en Blumenmädchen in Parsifal (Wagner).
Bibi is sinds 2022 als zangeres verbonden aan de Buurt Opera Malpertuis van Opera Zuid: artistiek en sociaal-maatschappelijk muziektheater voor het welzijn van de woonwijk, gehuisvest in de Maastrichtste wijk Malpertuis in de studio van Opera Zuid.
In september 2020 maakte Bibi haar theater debuut in de (dialect) monoloog MARA van Ger Bertholet (tekst) en Guido Wevers (regie), muziek door haar broer Charles Ortjens.
In de zomer van 2021 namen de opnames plaats van haar film debuut in de kortfilm Als een schaduw bleef je mij bewaard (Engels: The great appeal of the Cherry blossom) door La Strada Film (Luka Kluskens) & Mockus Film.
In mei 2019 werd Bibi uitgenodigd om in het Koninklijk Concertgebouw te zingen voor de verjaardag van de Kleine Zaal tijdens een masterclass van Jard van Nes. Verdere masterclasses volgde ze over het Duits- en Franstalig kunstlied, opera en theater (Robert Holl, Meinard Kraak, Jard van Nes, Marien van Nieukerken, Lotte de Beer, Arjan Tien, Daniel van Klaveren en Miranda van Kralingen).
Bibi is als zangcoach verbonden aan de Limburgse Koorschool (voor ±7-18 jarigen).
Samen met organiste Poppeia Berden verzorgt ze regelmatig de muziek tijdens huwelijks- en uitvaartmissen in Maastricht en
omstreken.
Bibi is enorm verheugd dat ze sinds december 2022 als koorlid deel uit maakt van André Rieu’s Johann Strauss Orkest en zo samen over de wereld reist!
Bibi Ortjens started singing after high school in 2013 at the local music school Kumulus Maastricht with soprano Heidi Pittie. This was followed by lessons with soprano Karin Herpel in Berlin. In 2014 she got accepted at Conservatorium Maastricht to study with baritone Frans Kokkelmans, where she received her Bachelor’s diploma cum laude with distinction in 2019. She continued her Master’s in Maastricht, whilst externally having lessons with her current teacher soprano Selma Harkink. June 2022 she completed her Master’s cum laude. During her Master's she studied via the Erasmus+ program for a semsester in Vienna at the MUK (Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien) with soprano Uta Schwabe (wintersemester 2020-2021).
Because of Bibi’s love for the operetta, moving to Vienna felt like a dream come true. The same love is cherished for the German and French art-song with which she graduated in 2022: song recital Calligrammes (Poulenc) and Myrthen op.25 (Schumann). Since 2022 Bibi is affiliated as a singer with the Buurt Opera Malpertuis of Opera Zuid: an artistic and social music theatre project for the well-being of the neighbourhood, homed in the Maastricht neighbourhood Malpertuis in the studio of Opera Zuid.
In September 2020 she made her theatre debut with the monologue MARA by Ger Bertholet, directed by Guido Wevers, music by her brother Charles Ortjens.
Summer 2021 the recordings took place of her film debut in the shortfilm The great appeal of the cherry blossom (Dutch: Als een schaduw bleef je mij bewaard) by La Strada Film (Luka Kluskens) & Mockus Film.
Apart from soloist appearances (a.o. Cultural Centre Novi Sad Serbia, Koninklijke Zangvereniging de Mastreechter Staar, Limburgs Oratorium Koor, Festival Musica Sacra, Internationaal Festival Vocallis and Basilica Consort OLV Sterre der Zee) she loves to sing ensemble and choir. Previous projects were with Studium Chorale (South Netherlands Philharmonic), Ad Mosam Barock, Spero Nova and Meesters&Gezellen collab. Het Nederlands Kamerkoor en Capella Amsterdam.
In May 2019 Bibi was invited to sing in the Royal Concertgebouw for the birthday of de Kleine Zaal during a masterclass with Jard van Nes. More masterclasses she partook were on German and French art-song, opera and theatre (Robert Holl, Meinard Kraak, Jard van Nes, Marien van Nieukerken, Lotte de Beer, Arjan Tien, Daniel van Klaveren en Miranda van Kralingen).
Bibi works as a vocal coach for the Limburg Choir School (for ±7-18 year olds).
Together with organist Poppeia Berden, she regularly sings during wedding and funeral Masses in and around Maastricht.
Bibi is very excited to be a part of André Rieu's Johann Strauss Orchestra as a choir member since December 2022 and to be travelling around the world together!
